Apple - Movie Trailers - Furry Vengeance (http://www.apple.com/trailers/summit/furryvengeance/#)
seriously wtf
Wow this just looks like a rip off of over the hedge...Raccoon and so on...> > Bleh
Might be worth a giggle. Brendan Fraser is pretty funny... even if it is just nature beating the holy hell out of him :D
Hopefully the whole movie is as hilarious as the trailer. :D
On April 30th, the word "Furry" is going to be bantered about a lot more often, for that is the date the film "Furry Vengeance" goes into a wide release. Although it sounds like a slasher revenge flick, Furry Vengeance is actually a kid-friendly family comedy, and you can see the trailer right here:

Initial musings:
1. The film calls to mind the plot of Over the Hedge: furry animals deal with the humans who are encroaching on their habitat (and this is fresh in my head because I saw Over the Hedge for the first time one week before I saw this trailer, and by golly if it did not look like a live action remake). The story of animals fighting to save their forest is also very much Dr. Doolittle 2. In fact, this whole movie falls into the generic plot, "Let's build this colossal project out in the middle of nowhere and have the locals come after us in angst".
2. The businessmen are horribly stereotypical mundanes with nothing but business on their minds...actually, this kind of ass backwards thinking is pretty common even in reality.
3. Brendan Fraser's character is a well-meaning businessman with bad intentions who will obviously see the light and mend the error of his ways before the credits roll. How many times have we seen this character in other films?
4. Brendan Fraser's wife thinks he is going insane. Again, how many disbelieving wives have appeared in other films? Is this a requirement of the cinematic universe that when your husband starts behaving oddly you automatically assume the problem lies with him?
5. Brendan Fraser's kids are against this project. Gee, I wonder whose morals will prevail?
6. Stock furry characters: the Raccoon as a sly trickster (after the Fox, Raccoons seems to be the most likely animal cast in this stereotype); the smell-spewing Skunk; the use of a Bear for intimidation (read: fear); Birds whose first line of defense is pooping (Hitchcock is spinning in his grave).
7. We see the Raccoon is ultimately fighting to save its family. Why are they showing us this in the trailer? They just gave away a huge plot point.
8. The carnival scenes are probably from the film's final act, and if not it is another needless giveaway.
9. Lots of physical comedy and lots of toilet humor (obviously now a requirement). Did we just see all of the best jokes?
Now, even though I am saying these factors seem to indicate the film will be a critical and commercial bomb (although audiences do not always listen to critics when it comes to certain genres like comedy), I am not saying that I want the movie to fail, especially if it has "Furry" in the title. Trailers have the capacity to lie. The trailer for American Graffiti was pretty bad; the film itself was spectacular. The problem with Furry Vengeance is that it all feels like something we have seen before; many times before. Stock situations, stock characters, stock jokes; in other words a lack of creative originality. The film was originally set for release on April 2nd; it has since been pushed back four weeks to April 30th. At first it would have gone up against the remake of Clash of the Titans; now it will be opposite the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street (It's also the year for remakes, folks. Get ready for plenty of them).
I think i'm only interested in watching it to see all the ways the animals mess with the people... most were probably in the trailer though. And yes the plot seems like Over the Hedge and others. :P
Ya This Looks Kinda Funny To See How All The Furrys Get Bak At Him.. i Wanna See it ^^
Live action Over the Hedge was a good way to put it. I'll probably see it once, but I think you might be absolutely right in that we may have just seen every high point already in the trailer.
Here's hoping the trailer is utter lies and that it's more than just base situational/slapstick humor!
^ Over the Hedge - one of my most favourite movies!
And yeah I'll go and see Furry Vengeance (yay for raccoons!) : D
The Critics Rave:
"Imagine Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds as a children's comedy, and you have a rough idea of the excruciatingly unfunny Furry Vengeance, which keeps slamming the audience over the head with a single joke."
Lou Lumenick, New York Post.
"A stupid, mean-spirited little movie that ranks down there with the worst in recent memory. Distant memory, too."
Bill Goodykoontz, Arizona Republic.
"Simply dire."
Pam Grady, Boxoffice Magazine.
"Witless and wince-inducing -- a slapstick misfire of epic proportions, even by downwardly adjusted expectations of movies in which anthropomorphized animals do battle with humans."
Brent Simon, Screen International.
"The movie is both slack and dumb -- a trying combo -- and it's heavily burdened with a big green message."
Kurt Loder, MTV.
"In its cretinous fashion, Furry Vengeance is almost impressive. Here's a pro-nature, anti-development family comedy that appears to be made by and for people who never leave the mall."
Ty Burr, Boston Globe.
"Furry Vengeance is a collection of feeble jokes in the service of green themes. Sustainability never looked so stupid."
Sheri Linden, Hollywood Reporter.
"This coarse family film is an insult to sentient families. Purporting to encourage conservation and the love of animals, it's a slight to true environmentalists and, heck, even an affront to animals."
Claudia Puig, USA Today.
"The paradox here is that the message of respect for animal life is outweighed by the lack of respect for human beings."
Liam Lacey, Globe and Mail.
"I'm not convinced that repeated assaults to the groin, bee stings to the eyes, raccoon pee in the mouth, or skunk stink sprayed head to toe is the way to teach ecological balance."
Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly.
"Kids will lose their minds at the sight of Fraser in a skin-tight pink tracksuit with the words "Yum Yum" on his sizeable backside. Parents will sigh and eat popcorn."
Linda Barnard, Toronto Star.
"No animals may have been hurt in this production, but Brendan Fraser was."
Jake Coyle, Associated Press.
"Even the obligatory blooper reel that runs during the closing credits is painful in its desperation to generate laughs."
Jen Chaney, Washington Post.
"...it seems the animals have already taken their revenge on any humans unfortunate enough to see this film."
Daniel M. Kimmel, New England Movies Weekly.
"The animals here don't talk; that's the movie's one saving grace."
Robert Wilonsky, Village Voice.
"Furry Vengeance is unbearable. (Actually, the bear's performance is pretty good.)"
Mike Hale, New York Times.
And a tip of the ears to one brave critic (though somewhat stating the obvious)...
"The plot of Furry Vengeance is identical to that of the animated Over the Hedge, but what Furry lacks in originality it makes up for in cleverness."
Chris Hewitt, St. Paul Pioneer Press.
