I hope this sort of thing would be allowed in here, although it isn't one of the three things mentioned in the forum name.
I've been wanting to upgrade my computer/get/build a new one, so if anyone has an old busted computer they don't want to deal with, or spare parts, then I'd really appreciate it. Just give 'em to me and I'll take it from there, whether I end up using them or just throwing them out. Would really appreciate the help, if you have anything of the sort available.
Just drop me a PM and we can make arrangements.
Otherwise, you could tell me in this thread where good places to find these would be, and that would also be great.
Thanks.
If you tell me wha you already have, I can look through my stuff to see if I have anything you can use. I prefer not to waste hardware... I always find a use, even if it's a cerial box game computer that comes out in the end.
Okay. Well, my motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-6VX7-4X as seen here:
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ProductID=1415 (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ProductID=1415)
Basically, I'm limited by the age of my motherboard. I mainly want to improve my computer's memory a bit or get a better video card, but if I could get an older motherboard that's still better than my current one, then I can build on top of that.
So to restate for everyone, what I'm looking for is:
Basic Stuff:
Hard Drives-ATA
RAM-512 MB sticks at most
A compatible video card (If I can get a better one to work with my motherboard. Current one is a Raedon 9000.)
More advanced stuff:
A newer motherboard
CPU
Newish-type RAM (2 yrs old or younger maybe)
Better video card than my current motherboard can support
Hard Drive (SATA if I can get a newer motherboard)
Optical Drives
Case
Power Supply
Fans
Essentially, if anyone has some stuff that's a little outdated and sitting around but is still better than what I currently have, then that's what I'm looking for.
Unfortunately, I don't really have anything useful to you... I have a bag of CPU's, but none of them are S370's. I also have a bag of SDRAM, but they're all 64's, and 128's... some singleside, some doubleside. I might even have a 256 somewhere, but I'd have to go through them, and I have nothing that takes SDRAM except for an old Compaq Deskpro that's missing pieces.
Unless you'd be willing to find SCSI optical drives, I have a Dell Poweredge 6300 server sitting around. :P

Well, in any case, thanks for giving it a try, and responding in the first place. I guess I'll try my luck through classifieds or seeing what the thrift stores have.
Here's a thought. I have a Pentium 4 Dell Dimension Desktop with AGP 4x, and takes RDRAM; faster than SDRAM. It only has 256mb in it right now, but if you can get a hold of bigger memory sticks for it, I'll let it go.
Keep me posted too, when I get a new computer, my current one will be for sale, and it's gaming computer worthy, plays most new (up to 2007) games without any flaws. I can play Cryostasis on it, at minimum graphics settings, and it gives me 15fps, and heats up my bedroom nicely at the same time. lol
Half Life 2 Episode 2 looks f***ing awesome on it, and plays at 1600x1200 at 72fps.
I'm expecting to make a computer purchase in February or March.
