Missed 'straight'

There is a kind of irony, here. :p  Straight here, as well, but I've definitely felt like a minority in the fandom.  But that's okay - I'm happy to be that minority if it means everyone else has a place where they can feel at home being true to themselves.  It also means being exposed to such a wide spectrum that it opens up your worldview and learn to be accepting of everyone, and can look past their gender / sexuality (while still recognizing it as valid!) to the person themselves.

'Otherkin' also probably should not be stuffed in with 'trans / intersexed'
as though it were an afterthought
(like 'straight', both should also have their own nice little check boxes).

Perhaps a further box for 'bisexual / pansexual' would also be in order,
as you had also skipped pan, and these two mostly fit together
much more soundly and happily than they do with 'gay / lesbian'.

bi.
You know, there are areas of the internet where being bi is the exception not the rule. Crazy, I know. o.o

pan but most friends and family think I'm straight, rather not get into it with them right now, way too much drama.

I'm a dood, and I guess I'm Bi-Pan as I don't really care which side of the gender it is. It's more along the lines of "Does this person make me feel happy and do I make them feel just as or more happy?..." personalities matter much more than a sexual conduit

Such is a fandom where two thirds of the demographic are part of the alphabet soup community. I personally don't care much for it, so long as modesty remains the better part of self-expression in public.

Don't lump all of us in there  :P

I'm beyond done with the "movement" aspect, and consider myself a guy who just happens to like guys. The label makes it easy to convey to others, no different than "straight". But as far as this LGBTQI#M2%S&R community business, I'll pass!

I know I'm not the only one feeling this way.

I am using the term "community" quite loosely here; I know that there is enough disparity within that demographic to realize that it's an exercise in futility to attempt to see it as being a monolith.

My point still stands however that a vastly disproportionate number of furries identify within the realm of LGBT, compared to the rest of the population. It also goes to show just how small the Furry Fandom actually is when we're talking about a demographic that makes up a single-digit percentage of the population at large (LGBT, not furries).

I'm not sure what I feel comfortable saying about my sexuality. .  I've only slept with guys. . . I don't want to rule out females, but I think I'd face some difficulties in trying to date a girl.

What is otherkin representing in this poll? I thought of otherkin as "mythical creatures," so you can be an otherkin and make out with whatever gender you like.

. . .I feel. . .like I've never been accepted in the LGBT community, ever. Especially as the acronym keeps growing, I feel like I am gay but I am not a part of this group. And I like that transgender rights are an issue: that's incredible! But I don't feel any camaraderie from the LGBT group . .and I don't feel welcomed when I enter an LGBT location. . . And, I'd sure like to: I've faced trauma, and abuse, for my sexuality, and it would be awesome if there was a place I could go, and feel safe; and maybe feel supported because I knew someone there, who actually knew something about being gay; who maybe knows something about bdsm. . . Because I can talk to "a professional," but they never know shit about issues gay people face. I got diagnosed with schizophrenia this month. . Is that really what's wrong with me?!???!? "You should take some risperidone; would probably help a lot." I know that's not what's wrong with me. .

Let me put a different way: one time I was denied access across the US border--for no explained reason; I'm pretty sure they thought I looked too weird, literally--and I was sent back across the border; had to talk with the Canadian guards. . They don't know why I was sent back: the US coulda thought I was a criminal; maybe I had punched someone! And soon I could tell it didn't matter: the investigation ended when I left the USA, and even if I really was a criminal, that didn't matter. What mattered is that I am a Canadian, and I'm home now, and this woman interviewing me will do everything she can to protect me in Canada. And I know the other gaurd nearby, will protect me, too. And when I walk out of the room, I can tell the two guards ahead of me, will protect me, too, and it didn't even matter if was up to no good: these guards will defend me, because I am Canadian, and that's all that matters! I'm home now. And I've never felt so proud before in my life. I felt like I wanted to defend them, too, if anything did happen..  :)

I haven't felt . .defended, for being gay. I'm ashamed to say I'm gay.  I want to march in the parade with a sign saying: "not proud."   But I've been so sick, it might literally kill me. I feel like a damaged good, that the LGBT community wants to shove underground to maintain the rhetoric of acceptance and peace.

Whoa damn dude, sounds like you've been through a lot owo even if your sexuality is modestly confirmed, thats still pretty sketchy with the border guards and all....

I never identified as being gay, growing up of course in a small town you would get picked on easy if you were, but if you owned it, you wouldn't really get picked on so much as nobody could get a rise out of you about it.

I tried to date a girl or two, neither one ever happened, slept with one guy in college, terrible mistake, just on of those youth stories you thought seemed awesome at the time and was probably intoxicated, but later on he tried stealing stuff from me when I was in class back at our dorms. And my roommates caught him and I caught him.

Turned out he also had asburgers so there wasn't much I could do but to tell him to get the fuck out.

Otherwise it's just been the odd online relationship, but even then it failed three more times and since ten I decided fuck it, I don't care which side I'm with, as long as that person makes me feel loved and I make them feel equally as loved, then screw being LGBT parade marcher. I don't need to announce it to the world.

However I think it's marriage and such that hinges a lot of difficult relationships just because of the equality of marriage rights and such, but I admit, LGBT groups have been a good at fighting those political battles too, so it's got plenty of good behind it when it comes to protesting for such things.

I checked gay and otherkin...though I think otherkin doesn't even belong in here because gay/bi/ straight is a orientation modifier, gender is an identity modifier... but otherkin is a spiritual belief. Its sort of the odd man out in this poll, take it from a dragon whose had that spiritual belief set that predated him being being in the furry fandom. I feel all warm and fuzzy when I hear it come up in some form or another but I don't think my being a dragon equates to a gender or sexual orientation... Unless I want to say how utterly nutty I get about dragons, but then I would call myself a Dracophile (jokingly). XD

I am with Kyroo on the gay part though, I actually feel rather disenchanted with the community as its grown to be a hot bed of issues that seems to be in the midst of making more problems for everyone than actually trying to fix any. On top of that because of the current SJW nature of that community, associating with it can actually be a crippling shot in the foot when it comes to relations with the outside world such as jobs or finding place to live, cause people assume you will be a bag of trouble and a potential lawsuit. For that reason I too prefer to stand back and go "yeah, guy who likes dudes, simple story, simple answer... now moving onto other topics!" My enjoyment of the same sex isn't really a massive part of my overall identity, its more like a tiny piece of the puzzle that completes a large picture of who oneself is. ^.=.^

I'm with you on this, i also consider my self a guy who likes, guys,  this politically correctness/gender politics will drive me completely out of the fandom, but i'll never stop being a gay furry, furry for life!
