: Any RTS Furs Around?
: ChapterAquila92 April 18, 2016, 01:18:39 -06:00
As an avid strategy gamer, I'd like to know who else shares the love of being an armchair general, and what strategy games you like to play.

As for myself, I've had a long history of RTS gaming, having played the following:

- Act of Aggression (http://store.steampowered.com/app/318020/);
- Age of Empires series (AoE + Rise of Rome (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_Empires_%28video_game%29); AoE2 + Conquerors, Forgotten Kingdoms (http://store.steampowered.com/app/221380/); AoE3 + Warchiefs (http://store.steampowered.com/app/105450/));
- Age of Mythology (http://store.steampowered.com/app/266840/);
- Battle for Middle-Earth 2 + Rise of the Witch-King (http://www.ea.com/lotr-the-battle-for-middle-earth-2);
- Command & Conquer series (Red Alert 2 + Yuri's Revenge (https://cncnet.org/red-alert-2), Tiberian Sun (https://cncnet.org/tiberian-sun));
- Divinity: Dragon Commander (http://store.steampowered.com/app/243950/);
- Empire Earth (https://www.gog.com/game/empire_earth_gold_edition);
- Europa Universalis 4 (http://store.steampowered.com/app/236850/);
- Halo Wars (http://www.halowars.com/);
- Sins of a Solar Empire + Entrenchment, Diplomacy, Rebellion (http://store.steampowered.com/app/204880/);
- Starcraft series (SC1 + Brood War (http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/games/sc/), SC2 (http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/));
- Stellaris (http://store.steampowered.com/app/281990/)
- Tom Clancy's EndWar (http://store.steampowered.com/app/21800/);
- Total War Series (Rome (http://store.steampowered.com/app/4760/), Medieval 2 (http://store.steampowered.com/app/4700/), Rome 2 (http://store.steampowered.com/app/214950/));
- Warcraft 3 + Frozen Throne (http://us.blizzard.com/en-us/games/war3/); and
- Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War + Winter Assault, Dark Crusade, Soulstorm (http://store.steampowered.com/app/4570/).

I've also dabbled in the following turn-based strategy games:

- People's General (https://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/peoples-general)
- Sid Meier's Civilization series (Alpha Centauri (https://www.gog.com/game/sid_meiers_alpha_centauri); Civ5 + Gods & Kings, Brave New World (http://store.steampowered.com/app/8930/); Civ: Beyond Earth (http://store.steampowered.com/app/65980/));

I love playing some RTS games, although I am admittedly not very good at them hehe. I mainly play them for their single-player campaign stories, though I dabble from time to time in multi-player. The games I have enjoyed playing are:

Command & Conquer series & Red Alert
Zed
쥬라기 원시전 (Really neat Korean RTS. Jurassic War, or something in English)
WarCraft 2 & 3
StarCraft 1 & 2
Age of Empires
Age of Mythology

Being a huge ancient Egypt buff I love playing Age of Mythology. It's fun to sometimes treat the game like it's a city builder and make huge, cool-looking cities hehe.

I used to play the crap out of Red Alert via direct dialup to my friend's house, back before cable / DSL were a thing. ;p

You guys might be interested in a couple free cross platform / open source ones:
And though it's not an RTS per se, in that you're not waging physical warfare, but an economic one, in the same kind of vein:

Definitely an RTS fan here.

-Homeworld series - the original and still unmatched space-based RTS

-Total War series - Grand historical campaigns and huge battles

-Wargame series - A remarkably faithful depiction mid-to-late cold war tactical combat

-Act of Aggression - A 'traditional RTS' in the way of command and conquer

-Age of Wonders - A pretty rich and varied TBS with a fair bit of content to explore with different strategies

Plenty of others but you get the picture, I do enjoy my strategery.
