: Outdoor Fursuiting?
: gallenw April 07, 2016, 12:21:45 -06:00
Hey all!
With the weather getting nice, I'd like to see what interest is there in getting a bunch of fursuiters/handlers/photogs and go shoot some cool fursuit photos?

Some ideas have been tossed on the telegram chat, like along English Bay. I might also be able to get a few hours of my recreation room and use the pool tables as a prop, get some (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3161162/) shots like these (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3161170/). I was exploring the quay along New Westminster last Sunday, and it would make (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/19607908/) for a great location too (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/19607916/).

Would definitely need to have a few extra paws to assist as handlers - keep children away from pulling on tails, make sure the fursuiters don't tumble down stairs, ensure fursuiters are properly hydrated, who's carrying the first-aid etc.

A rough guide would be, Meetup, get changed. Depending on experience/stamina of suiters, may have to split up the walk. Gather when done, make sure everyone's in one piece, and either head off, or head for food.

Pika?

Sounds interesting, one element to consider it to have a venue to serve as a "Headless lounge" to get in suit. This is always a bit of a challenge when organizing such event outdoors.

Ah crap, dang missed your reply, sorry. Yeah, that's an issue. I've attended some fursuit walks where they are planned together with a public event (e.g. Wish Foundation) and the fursuit walk organiser would request to use the change room from the main event organiser. Alternatively, was changing in the parking lot prior to the walk. Would love to hear other alternatives! Weather's been looking up!

Small bump to see if there are fursuiters interested. I just remembered an old post I wrote for Adjective Species years ago with some fursuit photos (lost my website sadly), so do check it out. I'll be at New West Pride for a few hours, there are lots of great locations by the riverside - weather permitting :)

In addition, I recently shot Becquerel at anime rev, here're some shots: ( Seaplane Port (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/20801284/) | At the con (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/20801266/) )

Some interest in the telegram groups! Yay! Here's what I'm proposing:

Coal Harbour. Not only can we get magnificent views of the waterfront, there are many locations to shoot at. Here's my proposed route:

- Coal Harbour Community Centre -> Harbour Green Park/The Lightshed (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LightShed) - Seaplanes -> The Drop (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Drop_(sculpture)) sculpture -> Olympic Cauldron/8bit Orca (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Orca) -> Canada Place -> Pokestop by Fairmont Waterfront -> Back to start.

According to google maps's distance measurement, the route is about 2.3km in length. The route is generally flat, but there is a gentle gradient upwards along the seawall to get to the The Drop and 8bit Orca. Off hand, I remember there are some steps by De Deutch that we can use as a rest stop - not much of privacy, but there is a toilet there for those that need it. There are also elevators to get up to the 8bit Orca, but I've never taken them so I'm not sure of their route.

There is at least one fursuiter from Richmond who is up for it, and won't mind picking up other fursuiters on the way if they can chip in for gas.

I'll be figuring out how to rent the meeting room in the Community Centre. I'm hoping to arrange for something in a month - my main camera is out for repairs, hope it returns soon.

Boo, can't seem to upload my map. Anyways, here's a link to imgur with the proposed route.

This sounds like fun, I would totally be down for joining up for this. I would be coming from Langley and can give people a ride if needed. When are you thinking of getting a group together for the event?

Hi Fridu! I'm hoping mid September saturday - need to see if I can get the space to get changed. There is an alternative location, but it's two blocks away...

Update! Two things:
a) My camera's replacement won't arrive till the 3rd week of September, if that. As such, I checked out bookings for the 24th of September.
b) The community centre does not have the smaller (and cheaper) room available, only a bigger, more expensive space.
c) Weather forecast appears to be looking good, but who knows given this time of year.

Suggestion: There is a cheaper, alternative location that is not so fancy, and about 3 blocks away. We can start from there instead, and if the weather turns out to be crappy in the morning, we can call it off.

What do you all say?

This definitely sounds interesting. I might be up to tagging along for this gathering. Sounds pretty cool! Where would this be held? I take transit, so just trying to figure out commute route.

Doh, sorry, I am not sure why I never get the reply notifications :( This will be in coal harbour - nearest skytrain station is Waterfront.

Just to update, my camera is back in the house! Still need to get used to it, but I'm pretty much ready to go now.

Something BIG is coming up in December.  Multiple potential fursuiting opportunities.  Details to come.
