: LAN and retro gaming (testing the waters)
: Drake Wingfire October 19, 2015, 12:42:17 -06:00
As some of you may know, I have tried and generally fallen short on trying to take the reigns and get a LAN gaming event off the ground, despite extensive amounts of hardware and a couple games its been hard to really gain the interest I was hoping for. In the past there was one or two successful times that a LAN party actually got off the ground. (Some day I hope to actually make it a thing when I got more energy)

My thought here is to propose a different type of gaming event. Something that is more open for folk to join in on if they please, perhaps a Steam and Skype night. I myself am a fan of some really odd and vintage game titles and got this idea after playing Age Of Empires HD with a few friends over the last month and a bit. As I can see there are a lotta pretty straight froward multi-player games out there that would work well such as Age Of Empires, TF2 or even some really nutty and cheesy HL1 mods. I propose these for the example cause 1: They are cheap or even free! 2: Almost any system can run them these days, and 3: they are very easy to pick up and go!

Throwing this out here on the forums for a few reasons but mostly just to see how wide a range of folk this may interest.

Unfortunately I don't live on the Island. I actually posted a similar personal ad for the mainland.

We could play together online if you're interested, since I'm fairly active on Steam.

That would be cool, region matters little when it comes to something like this, so the more the merrier! ^.=.^

I remember playing age of empires/age of mythology.   Best games ever.  I travel to Nanaimo from Campbell River frequently during weekends so may be interested.

Those are both awesome games, if you wanted to add me on steam (pm me) cause my idea is to kinda have a bunch of us do stuff over steam. ^.=.^

OK, I can do that.  I don't actually have a steam account yet but I can easily set one up.  I'm not that much of a gamer as got an insanely busy life but when I do want to game I usually do it with a group of people.  I'll pm y when I get it set up

BRINGING THIS TOPIC BACK XD

Okay, two things.
One, I find it hilarious that it takes a certain kind of 'event' to bring people to LAN consoles now as that used to be the only way to enjoy cool games. not to bash computers currently today, no  no they are clearly on the upperhand with mods, but good ol childhood.

two. I do live on the island and would think a kind of gaming night would be kinda fun to get some new friends banded together for nachos and bbq and have like a group feastival and lead it to a group session of gaming to make it awesome and fun, however it would depend on which console and games you could see being on hand, and since I've been only the second victorian next to the guy above this post.

SO. if you do live in the Victoria area, I'd be interested to see what LAN/Console games you have and dig through my still-boxed gaming collection xD

Usually was a Soul Calibur fan, so I got 3(PS2) and 4(360) my better multiplayer kind of games lol, if I even have many left....

I am not in Victoria actually, I am mid-island. This topic is sadly pretty necro at this point, could say more but its not needed.

Also in the first post I was talking about PC games exclusively (I got a lot of spare hardware and can pretty much host ALL the gear) I haven't really been a console gamer since I was little but that's an entirely different topic. But thats why I said LAN gaming XD

If by some chance I meet more furs who are into some chill, slightly older PC games, then I will be all over that regardless! ^.=.^

Well of course there was Warthunder time to time I guess, But I remember the last reallllly fun LAN game was this old 4X4 rally/simulator game we used to play tons of, and altering up the tunings on your vehicle to such a point where a jeep wrangler became a the bouncing hippie mobile XD hahaha, ahh good times.
