So, about a couple of weeks ago... I was on Omegle talking to furries. I had bumped into someone who seemed to be a pretty nice person, and she had asked me if I wanted her to make me a fursuit.. I accepted her offer of course, but to my horror after she had sent me a picture of the foam head base for it, I had my suspicions about the file name. A little googling brought me to the picture of the same exact one, the base used for the furry called Kazoo. Then she had the gall to try and pretend that she was Telephone/Ino. After heavy questioning she couldn't give me any straight answers. I had almost lost $755 dollars to this garbage.

Its fortunate you caught that before you gave them that money. Its all too easy for people to get ripped off in this fandom with stuff like that since when shit goes tits up, you have little recourse..
Ironic also cause of the... derp thats tended to surround the whole angel dragon thing, That is gotta be one of the worst choices of suiter/maker to pretend to be.
I had something similar happen to me. I didn't trust it. They send me pictures and the pictures were so friggin small it was like they sent it through mobile, not to mention... someone wouldn't just offer to make a suit for you. This person also offered to make me one for free, I mean who just does that for someone they don't even know... online? lol :P Don't trust people online.
Yeah, all of what you guys have said is totally true. It was really dumb of me to trust someone I had just met online to make me a fursuit, and maybe this time if I feel like getting one made... I'll be sure to find someone local who I know is good at what they do, who is reliable, and won't try and screw me over.
it's pathetic that people try to go to those extremes and worse,when confronted dig themselves even deeper into the lying .
I find even with fursuit makers who show their work and have really good reviews you must be careful. Speaking from actual experience I found someone who's work I know to be good quality(having received my head/worn it to con) and has only received one or two bad reviews in general to make my suit. It has been a year now and I have yet to see even a WIP
Now granted she has unfortunate event after unfortunate event happen to her throughout the last year and a half so I see it less of her cheating me/being a lousy person and a more sympathetic.
What was funny is that even if she had tried a bit harder to convince me that she was Ino, I wouldn't believe her because I know what she looks/sounds like, and I know what Ino looks/sounds like too. Another funny thing is that when I asked her if she had a mate she said that she was living with her boyfriend, and that all she could tell me was that he was Radio and that no one knows what his real name is. Yet, when you go to the video of him proposing to Ino, it has both of their names in the video description.

My understanding is that $755 would only barely even cover the material costs.
I made my body partial for $160 and had a shit load of material left over. I bought 6 meters. 2m for $80, and got 2m and 2m for another $80, when Dressew was having a sale. So regular it would be $240. I made a body + hood + complete furred head, hand paws, and still had a lot left over. To add foam, lets grace it at $100.
So in materials, a fursuit is ~$400. (Budgeted between foam and, for me, three types of fur)
I've talked to some Vancouver fur makers and they said it takes them about 4-5 hours to carve and fur a head, about 1-2 for paws. I've also heard that a lot of fur makers out source their body work to production lines. With that, a person can casually push out a suit a day.
So you pay for someone to carve a head and paws, MAYBE a body suit (I hand stitched my body and hood in about 8 hours).
So lets grace 15 hours to make a suit, NO, lets grace 20 hours (fursuit maker may be lazy).
So $1000 for the costume. Materials $400. For labor is $600/20h = Fursuit maker at $30/hr. That's potentially $600 A DAY.
With outsourcing. Lets say that costs $100 a product to sew. The product becomes less then 10hrs to make. So at $1000 - $400(materials) - $100(outsourcing). That leaves $500, for a product that takes less then 10h to make. $500/10h = $50/h !!!

I'd like to talk to someone who can carve and fur a head in 4 to 5 hours it takes me 10 hours to carve and I suck at the fur part. Can ya steer me in the right direction?
