European bear/rat invasion

Hey folks,

My spouse Cara and I are going to move from Norway to Canada around June this year and it's great to see that the furry community is much more alive and well populated here. By the way, we're not Norwegians, we've just been living there for the past 5 years, so no Scandinavian stereotypes please. :)

Our new home will be in Prince George, where Cara is going to take a PhD in psychology at UNBC. We were hoping that it would be Vancouver or Victoria but the universities there are apparently difficult to get into, at least if you don't know the professors personally. But well, it's still BC, so that's cool.

We're not very deeply involved in the fandom at this point but we definitely have some connection to specific animals, we appreciate anthro art and we've enjoyed talking to the few furries we've encountered so far, which were nice, open-minded people. As you can tell from my avatar I'm a bear (not in the gay sense of the term ;)) and my spouse is a rattie.

So, yeah, before I ramble on too much I just want to say it's awesome that BC has its own forum and that I can't wait to travel over the big pond.

welcome to the forum and advance welcomes to BC. there is a fur community in PG, all you have to do is ask who, and where a meet is being held. fyi Vanc is just a short 14 hour drive from PG

would you have preferred i said a long, slow, drawn out 14 hour drive and longer if the weather and roads are not clear? that also may not include any stops you might like to make to view scenery, rest, stretch eat, fuel etc.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I was just thinking that there is probably a different mindset when it comes to distances, simply because North America is so much larger than Europe.

Personally I would prefer going by plane, so that I spend less time travelling and more time exploring the city. Although driving through the countryside also has its appeal, of course.

Haven't seen any of that around but then again I haven't specifically looked for it. Our general idea for the move is taking as little as possible with us, but should I stumble upon any old lego stuff I could send a package before the move.

Welcome to the forums, and To Canada, and more specifically BC, glad to have you! There are some furries living in Prince George I believe. So anyway, welcome!

UNBC is an awesome University! I went there, both my sisters went there, hell, as of May 31, My sister got her PhD in psychology there! Yes, my sister got her PhD, and your wife is getting hers...weird situation, you wife will probably know my sister...though my family doesn't know about the whole furry thing...

'Eh' is a Canadian thing? I thought that was fairly universal and have been using it myself. :)

Funny coincidence that your sister got her PhD in psychology at UNBC.

Hey there, mate;

Welcome to the boards. I think you're right about the perception of distances -- I've heard a lot of people from that side of the globe think that an hour or two is a fairly long drive -- after all, you can pretty much get halfway across the country in the time it takes to drive from some Canadian cities to others.

Interestingly, I was once sold a wolverine fursuit named 'Skallagrim'. Does it mean something, or is it just a neat-sounding name?
