Hey guys, I'm looking to build myself a fursuit head.  I plan on using the plastic canvas as a base and use foam and faux fur on top for the skin.

Does any one have any tips for a first timer here?  I would gladly accept and help that you could offer. Links to tutorials would be awesome as well.

Also does anyone have a copy of Critter Costuming: Making Mascots and Fabricating Fursuits? I would love if I could borrow this from anyone.

Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes I have that book.

I'm not really all that keen on plastic canvas heads. There is admittedly the fact that they can be cooler, but you can partially compensate with careful design of a foam head.

Plastic canvas is not built for strength. A careless baggage handler or an overenthusiastic fan, and it'll break. Then it's very hard to replace just the part that broke.

It'll also have pressure points if you're not careful with your design.

thanks for the tip Rainrat.  the main reason I went with the plastic canvas is that I have a LOT of it lying around at home, and I have experience making things with it.  But the tips about the strength make me think that this head will be a temporary one while I acquire the equipment to make the head that I really want (plastic vacuforming baby!)

And yeah I will just have to be careful to make the construciton of the head extra strong just in case.

But if I could borrow that book that would be so fantastic.  I'm really nice to my books so theres no worry about damaging it.

RainRat

Yeah, you can borrow the book.
